OVERVIEW

With 15 lakh bike taxi drivers (“captains”) across 100+ Indian cities, most from low-literacy backgrounds and classified as Novice Internet Users (NIU), this project aimed to improve their in-app earning experience. Driver-reported issues revealed that 17.5% were related to earning concerns. Research identified transparency and communication as key problem areas. A design-driven overhaul introduced a revamped interface, localized content, and accessible information tailored to captains' needs. Interactive prototypes were tested, followed by successful experimentation in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. This led to a significant reduction in earnings-related calls—from 17.5% to 7.3% between January and March 2023. The project met its goals, paving the way for a nationwide rollout.
